Knox Area Weekend To Do List, July 21-23, 2023

Do: Grainger County Tomato Festival

When: Friday, July 21st, 12pm-6pm and Saturday, July 22nd, 9am-6pm
Where: 7480 Rutledge Pike, Rutledge

The Grainger County Tomato Festival was organized in 1992 to promote our world famous Grainger County Tomatoes. The mission is to promote all Grainger County agricultural products, specifically the Grainger County Tomato, and to promote the many local artists, authors, talent, and craftsmen we have in our area. Over the years they have added a number of special events making the festival one of the largest free festivals in East Tennessee and has been named by Parade magazine as one of the top ten free festivals in the USA.

There is a living history section where people are dressed in period clothing exhibiting what life was like during the Revolutionary War. There are vendors in this area as well selling handmade items like leather goods, wooden toys, and iron tools. These craftsmen are demonstrating their craft right there on the festival grounds, and they love to share their knowledge. This is an educational opportunity for the entire family.

Another crowd favorite is the tractor and engine exhibit and its not just for the guys. The ladies are included thanks to the pink tractors. The folks that own these wonderful machines are right there with them and love to talk about all that is involved with restoration and use.

There will be several misting tents scattered around the festival grounds that cool the air by about 15 degrees. They do welcome dogs and you can find many water stations for your pups to get a drink to cool off. It is July and it will be hot so please keep that in mind when you bring your pets out for a day of festivities.

The Tomato Wars is so popular that they had to add an extra day to accommodate all the sign ups, which is a great thing because it's a fundraiser for Yoke.

The Grainger County Opry will take place on Friday, July 21st, 6:30pm-9pm. The admission is free and the event will take place in the Middle School Gym.

Watch & Listen: Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None"

When: Friday, July 21st, 7pm; Saturday, July 22nd, 7pm; Sunday, July 23rd, 3pm

Where: Theatre Knoxville Downtown / 800 South Central St. Knoxville

In And Then There Were None, Agatha Christie’s play based on one of her most famous novels, ten unlikely strangers are summoned to a beautiful seaside home on a remote island. All that these guests have in common are wicked pasts they’re unwilling to reveal and secrets that will seal their fates. For each has been marked for death as soon as they set foot on Soldier Island. As the weather turns bad and the group is cut off from the mainland, the bloodbath begins. One by one, they are brutally murdered in accordance with the lines of a sinister nursery rhyme. But who is the mysterious Mr. Owen and can you figure out whodunnit before the last victim falls?

Fans of Agatha Christie, Knives Out, White Lotus, and any BBC mystery program will love this murder mystery set in pre-WWII England, when etiquette and manners begin to falter as soon as the violence starts. The Theatre Knoxville Downtown production, directed by Christina Scott Sayer, features a wealth of local acting talent, including many familiar faces from the local Knoxville theatre community, as well as some rising stars.
