Knox Area Weekend To Do List, September 9-11, 2022

Do: Smoky Mountain Air Show   

When: Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th, 7am-5pm  

Where: Tennessee Air National Guard Base at McGhee Tyson Airport, Knoxville

The 2022 Smoky Mountain Air Show is proud to feature the Blue Angels, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and many more. Also, the Budweiser Clydesdales will be part of the opening ceremonies to help kick off the performances. There will be vendors, exhibits, a music stage and kids area. 

Saturday and Sunday September 10-11, 2022*:

7:00 a.m.  Parking Areas Open
8:00 a.m. Gates Open
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Static Displays, Vendors, Exhibits, Kids Area & Music Stage
11:00 a.m.  Opening Ceremonies
12:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Aerial Performances
5:00 p.m.  Gates Close

*The aerial acts and static displays will be the same on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. The schedule is subject to change.

Eat & Drink: Fried Green Tomato Festival 

When: Saturday, September 10th, 9am-5pm
Where: Downtown Niota
       

Located in downtown Niota, TN, the annual Fried Green Tomato Festival will take place on September 10! After trying all of the fried green tomatoes your heart dreams of, visit all of the vendors, food, arts, and crafts. 

 Also, check out the live music! There will also be a kids zone featuring a bounce house and a petting zoo!

When: Friday, September 9th, 8pm-10pm

Where: Nicholas Ball Park / 8728 Ball Camp Pike, Knoxville

Family: Family Day - Celebrate the Art of the Day of the Dead

Join museum educators for a FREE Family Fun Day on September 10! Celebrate the new exhibition, The Spirit of Día de los Muertos, with crafts, art, tours, and family-friendly activities.

Explore the history of the many artistic traditions associated with the celebration of the Day of the Dead.

Tours of the gallery in Spanish will also be available and the Knox County Public Library will be joining us for bilingual story time.

Before the Family Day Event begins at 1pm there will be a screening of the movie Coco that will begin at 10:30am. 

Join in for a free Spanish screening of the award-winning movie Coco. The screening will be in Spanish and will add rich context to the McClung Museum's current exhibition: The Spirit of Día de los Muertos.

Watch & Listen: Bluegrass & Summer Nights on the Lawn

Where: The Jim Henry Event Center / 411 N 3rd St. Kingston 

Come and enjoy live bluegrass and country tunes! Bring a lawn chair; shop from local crafters; and stop by one of the food trucks for supper. There will also be games and some outdoor activities; so, bring the whole family.
