The holidays are over. Life is starting to get back to normal and in a routine. Don't let the winter blues get you down. Take advantage of our weekend to do list to find some GREAT things going on in our area. 

Do: Orchid Growing Class

When: Saturday, January 13th, 10am-12pm
Where: UT Gardens / 2518 Jacob Dr. Knoxville

This workshop will introduce some of the most popular genera of orchids and explore the growth requirements of these beauties so that you can successfully grow them at home. By gaining a deeper understanding of their natural habitat, you will be well equipped to coax their charming blooms for years to come.  A $45 Fee includes one tropical orchid plant and one hardy terrestrial variety. The orchids will be not be in bloom at this time of year.
Presenter: John Tullock is a lifelong gardener and conservationist who has been growing orchids for over 30 years. As a writer and photographer, he has 20 published books on a diversity of topics. His Growing Hardy Orchids received a "Great Garden Book" award from the American Horticulture Society. Pre-registration is required: go here.

Eat: Sushi Making Class

When: Sunday, January 14th,  5pm-7pm
Where: The Central Collective / 923 N Central St. Knoxville 

Join Kumi Alderman of The Sushi Academy of Knoxville as she teaches  the basics of sushi making. This interactive class will include how to make sushi rice, finding the best ingredients, rolling sushi, decorating sushi platters, and proper use of chopsticks. Best of all, you get to eat the sushi you've made. The cost is $55 and this is vegan and vegetarian friendly.
