Weekend To Do List - Socially Distant Edition

Each week we bring you the Great Life RE Weekend To Do List. We don't want to stop now! As our counties and state start opening back up many are still staying home and being cautious. Step by step we will get back to "normal," but while we wait, we want to bring you plenty of great things to do. It's easy to go stir-crazy at home, but thankfully there are a lot of ways to stay active and safe while you're practicing social distancing. 

So let's try another week of the Great Life RE Weekend To Do List: Social Distancing Edition! 

Do: 865 Studio Shirt Pop Up at Vienna Coffeehouse in Maryville

When: Saturday, June 13th, 9am-12pm
Where: The Vienna Coffeehouse / 212 College St. Maryville 

Pop up printing at Vienna Coffee house on Saturday morning. Two fun designs for this event and there will be more designs available. Bring plenty of shirts and get them printed for only $5! "Garden Gangster" will be printed in navy ink and "Sometimes I wet my plants" will be printed in green ink so adjust your shirt colors accordingly. All you do is bring the shirt and they do the rest!

Eat: Lobster Dogs at Next Level Brewing

When: Friday, June 12th at 12pm-6pm
Where: Next Level Brewing Company / 700 North Broadway, Knoxville 

Lobster Dogs is very excited to be back at Next Level Brewing! They’ll be serving up the best lobster rolls and stuffed avocados in Tennessee! You've got to check them out and eat some great lobster and drink some great craft brews on the patio or indoors in the tap room. Social distancing measures are in place.

Try: Birding for Beginners Hike

When: Sunday, June14th at 8am-10am

Where: Seven Islands State Birding Park / 2809 Kelly Ln. Kodak

Living in a quieter, slower paced world has allowed more people to notice the birds around them. If you have found a new interest in birding, this is the hike for you! You will hike approximately 3 miles and learn the basics of birding, including tips for identification, bird songs, and the best tools and resources for beginning birders. This hike is open to birders of all ages.

Come prepared with good walking shoes, water, field guides (optional), and binoculars. They are also asking visitors to bring a mask for when you are unable to social-distance.

For public health and safety reasons, this program will be limited to 10 people. (If this hike becomes full be sure to check out all the other events they have going on).

Family: Ijams Nature Center E-Learning Station

Ijams Nature Center Offers Online Options for At-Home Fun, Learning. If you’re looking for fun things to learn or do while you’re at home, Ijams Nature Center is here to help. While the Ijams Visitor Center has closed and all programs have been canceled in response to COVID-19, the staff continues to share educational resources and information to educate, inform and inspire.

The nature center has launched a new Ijams E-Learning Station on its website. The new page features a variety of scavenger hunts for kids, tips on composting or creating pollinator gardens, and more.

Ijams will continue to add new information to the page, located at https://www.ijams.org/ijams-e-learning

The staff also is sharing ways to engage with and learn about nature on Ijams’ Facebook (@ijamsnaturecenter) and Instagram (@ijamsnaturecenter) pages.

Watch and Listen: The Rockin' Parkway Drive-In and Cafe

When: Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
Where: Parkway Drive-In / 2909 E Lamar Alexander Pkwy. Maryville

The Parkway Drive-In opened in 1950. This drive-in closed in 1984. Around 1999 it was rebuilt and re-opened. This season they are allowing 400 cars each night and gates open at 7pm. Movies start at dusk  or approximately 40 minutes after sunset. They offer a wide range of delicious meals and snacks to enjoy during the movie. Admission is cash only at the ticket booth and cash, debit, or credit at concessions. This weekend they will be showing "I Still Believe" (PG) at dusk and "The Short History of the Long Road" (PG-13) afterwards.
